Nigerian Ship Owners Association (NISA) to Create More Jobs

The immediate past president of the Nigerian Ship Owners Association (NISA), Chief Isaac Jolapamo, has said the association would ensure the growth of the shipping industry to add to the Job Vacancies in Nigeria

He stated this at the inauguration of new executives of NISA Lagos on Tuesday 11 Nov 2014, adding that "we have come out of the trenches with better determination to secure our maritime industry is capable of reducing our dependence on oil and creating jobs."

Jolapamo noted that the Nigerian maritime industry which was the envy of nations with assurance for transportation of cargoes by local ships with shipyards designed for ship repair and ship building, quickly changed negatively when foreign companies dominated the sector.

He said the foreign companies were against the idea of indigenous ownership and management of ships to ensure continued foreign dominance of Nigeria's maritime trade.

The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC), Mr Hassan Bello, at the occasion said the revival of the national carrier was very key to the growth of the economy and called on the new leaders of NISA to ensure that the issue was re-visited.

Meanwhile, the new NISA President, Capt. Niyi Labinjo, in a maritime online report said the new executives would work to ensure that Nigerians got back the shipping jobs that should rightfully come to them.
